Surprise, Surprise!

He Just Drove 27 Hours

Y’all Mr. #BlackAF aka Menz 3 just drove cross country 27 HOURS to surprise me for my birthday! I am still shooketh. I don’t even know if I would drive that far to see me! Lol. 

Despite all the blasts from the past that have been coming out of the woodwork since I’ve been back in my hometown, Mr. #BlackAF and I have been going strong. I wasn’t sure if me being away for over a month was going to change our dynamic as we were only hanging out for about 4 weeks before I left. However, the distance has made both of us grow fonder of each other as we now talk every day all day. He is the first face I see when I wake up and the last face I see before I go to bed. 

Now initially, I thought about going back for my birthday but due to Da Rona I figured I would prefer to be around my family and hometown friends. We briefly discussed him coming here since he’s never been but that conversation was very short lived. I’ve been in my hometown going on 4 weeks now and I have been counting down the days to see him again. I’ve definitely missed him over these past few weeks. 

The night before my birthday he asked me to look up some last minute flights for him. Because he’s such a free spirit and not a planner of course he waits until 24 hours before to decide he wants to take a flight (not surprising). He then called me promptly at midnight to tell me ‘Happy Birthday’ and that he hopes he will be able to catch a flight so he can make it before my birthday is over. The next morning I was busy sending him flights and trying to coordinate with him. He always video calls me but all of a sudden he’s now calling me via regular phone calls. He’s barely texting me back and every time I asked where he was or what he was doing he said he was busy doing audition tapes, fair. 

It’s almost 6 p.m. now and I’m headed out for birthday drinks with some friends. He then video calls me while I’m in my Uber headed to the rooftop spot. Finally, I get to see his face, the first time all day! I can see he’s in his car driving so I ask where he’s on his way to and he says he’s in Nebraska. WTH??! He’s always saying crazy stuff so I immediately start laughing cause I knew he was joking and just assumed he was on his way to the airport or something. I responded, “yeah ok Babe, of course you are.” And I literally laughed out loud. He then flips his camera around so I can see him driving and I’m like WTF?!?!

This man is really driving across the country to come and surprise me for my birthday!!! Is this love or nah? All these emotions just flooded over me. I was so excited I could not have asked for a better birthday gift. He told me he had about 7 more hours to go and he was determined to make it before midnight so he can see me on my birthday. Like how sweet is this man?! Lordt! 

I booked a hotel down the street from where I was having drinks as I knew he would be exhausted. Also, so I could continue drinking and not have to worry about going far. After I finished drinks with my friends I went to the hotel and not even 10 mins later he pulled up at 11:58 p.m. I got my birthday kiss before midnight followed by and a special birthday treat. 

Actually, I got not one, not two, but three birthday treats 😉.
